Low Acidic Foods – The 20% in your 80:20 Alkaline Diet

It’s important to mention, that once you’ve become alkalized, balanced and regained fabulous health, you can re-introduce, in your 20% portion, some other lower acid foods. When eaten in moderation (not every day), they will have no adverse effect on your body. For example, there is no disputing that blueberries are a fabulous source of antioxidants, when your body is in balance. While on this journey, however, antioxidants will be derived from other sources.

Fruit
(Should never be mixed with any other food)

• Blueberries – eat very infrequently
• Cantaloupe melons – mildly acidic
• Grapefruit (white) – mildly acidic
• Green Bananas – these are simply under ripe bananas, mildly alkaline
• Medjool Dates – fresh only, mildly acidic
• Plums – mildly acidic
• Raspberries – eat very infrequently
• Sour Cherries – mildly alkaline
• Sweet Cherries – mildly acidic
Vegetables
(These have a high sugar content and are not suitable for a cleanse)

• Carrots
• Celery Root
• Horseradish
• Parsnips
• Red Bliss Potatoes – these are young, small, fresh potatoes that have not yet been stored

• Buckwheat Groats – pre-cooked known as Kashi, mildly acidic
• Buckwheat Groats – raw, mildly alkaline
• Ezekiel Pasta – from Food for Life

• Kidney Beans – dried, soak over night, mildly alkaline
• Lentils – dried, French

• Manna Bread – sprouted, 
yeast free, moist bread – Nature’s Path
• Sesame Spelt Bread – Food for Life
• Spelt, yeast free bread – French Meadow
The following foods, while in essence acidic, offer some vital nutrients that are needed and so should be included in the food choices as part of the 20% portion on your plate.

• Organic Basmati Brown Rice, provides some Vitamin B12

Foods to Eliminate – some may start off as Transitional Foods
• Alcohol – Beer and Wine
• Artificial sweeteners and sugar, Corn syrup, Molasses, Barley Malt, Fructose, Maple Syrup, Honey, Rice Syrup, Agave Nectar
• Butter
• Cacao
• Carob
• Coffee
• Corn
• Corn Oil
• Dairy of any kind including Ice cream, Cream, Cheese, Soy Cheese, Yogurt, Whey, Goat Cheese
• Dried Fruit
• Fruit – sweet like Bananas, Pineapples, Mangos, Grapes, Raisins
• Fruit Juice
• Ghee
• Jam
• Jelly
• Ketchup
• Malt
• Margarine
• Mayonnaise
• Meat Pork, Veal, Beef, Chicken, Poultry, Eggs, Organ meats like liver, Kidneys
• Monosodium glutamate – MSG
• Mushrooms
• Mustard – prepared and jarred
• Oat Bran
• Ocean fish such as Shark or Monk Fish.
• Pickled Fruit
• Pistachios, Peanuts, Cashews
• Potatoes (stored) – new baby potatoes are fine
• Protein, meal replacement shakes that are usually filled with hidden sugars, high amounts of fruit or flavored with chocolate. None on the market today are alkaline and most are completely acidic.
• Raw Cacao – can be used as a transitional food when moving away from chocolate
• Rice Pasta – a suitable transitional food, steering away from traditional white/ wheat pastas
• Rye
