All you lucky Chanson Ionizer owners, below you will find the oh so important cleaning tips for your fabulous ionizer.
If you own a Chanson Ionizer and have not cleaned it in the last year, then please follow these instructions.
If you have heavy usage such as making a lot of strong acid water often or giving away a lot of water then you should do the procedure twice per year.
There are some water sources that are extremely hard, when this water is combined with heavy usage it could necessitate doing the cleaning procedure 3 times per year.
Use the Orange PH drops that came with your ionizer to test your ionized water, test once per month regularly. (See DVD for PH test instructions) When you test regularly you will know what your machine normally produces. Example; you are used to seeing blue water on the 9.5 setting. If you test and the water is not blue (or whatever your normal color is) it is probably time for a flush.
Chanson water Ionizer cleaning procedure:
1. Remove filter cartridge (the cartridge is the filter itself) from filter cup inside the machine by twisting filter cap counter clockwise, please hold the filter cup body with one hand and twist cap with the other. When you lift the filter cap the filter cartridge itself will lift out because it is attached to the cap.
2. Remove filter cartridge from filter Cap by twisting it. (Make sure you have the flat clear disc removed from inside the filter cap or from the top of filter cartridge)
3. Remove water from inside the filter cup by dumping or using a turkey baster to suction water out.
4. Warm 8 ounces of DISTILLED water. Warm only, like a cup of tea not boiling.
5. Mix 2 heaping tablespoons of Citric Acid powder into the water and stir until dissolved. (I sell pure citric acid powder on my website) Make sure it is dissolved. Vinegar is no longer recommended.
6. Pour citric acid/water mixture into filter cup and screw filter cap on. (Do not install filter cartridge)
For Counter top ionizers -unplug Power cord. Open the water flow for 3-4 seconds and close the water. (no electricity is needed for this procedure)
After you have shut water flow off, immediately lift the drain tube and tie it to the main flexible spout with a bag tie, string or piece of tape, this will prevent the citric solution from draining prematurely. To be clear- Make sure the drain tube is lifted up and pointing straight up to prevent water drain. Make sure to lower the drain tube before turning water on again.
For Under-counter Ionizers, start by pressing the Minus button until you see “purified” then press power button, let water run 3-4 seconds and turn off.
7. Let soak for 30-60 minutes. Repeat this procedure one more time.
8. Run water on “ purified” setting only- for 5 minutes, (under-counter ionizer) or just turn water flow on for counter top models (because the ionizer is unplugged) and let run 5 minutes- Turn off, wait for 10 minutes and flush for 5 more minutes.
9. Test water, if desired improvement is not seen then repeat procedure up to 3 times.
10. Re-install filter with flat rubber disc on top.
Note:
This procedure may need to be repeated 1-3 times. If you have gone for long periods without a flush and you know you have very hard water and the flush procedure is not working, you may need to send the machine in for a thorough cleaning.
